Course Syllabus

In Acting 3, the stakes are higher.  The students have most likely completed Acting 1 & 2 and have continued with this track.  We start to delve into playmaking and auditioning.

Term 1. Playmaking - Bringing Playmaking into the mix has opened many doors for students.  Through a culmination of scenes and prompts, stories are made and the play process begins.  Playwriting and Playmaking are different entities-  both with a product at the end. However, Playmaking is collaborative and involves everyone- everyone has a voice or a moment in each other's finished product.

Term 2. Audition Techniques - I am hopeful that many students will consider the Performing Arts when looking at colleges.  Regardless; audition techniques will help cultivate a portfolio for those students who will audition for schools and it will create more confidence for the Job Interview process of the future.  Being able to read a room and put yourself out there is a skill that is valuable for everyone!

3. The History of Musical Theatre - People didn't just start singing in plays for no reason.  The history of this art form is vast and very interesting. In such a short time, the trajectory of Musical Theatre has changed immensely- we will unpack this and understand the importance of this very popular style of Theatre!

4. Film Scenes - Acting for the camera is a very different experience and it is a skill that is important to know.  Through a variety of activities and then scenes, we will challenge what we know of stage acting to be quite different behind the camera!

The goal of the group in playmaking is to create short plays to cast and direct for a New Works Festival in the Spring.  This will be a read aloud or a performance.
