Course Syllabus

Fitness Center

This course is designed for the motivated student who is interested in making a difference in their fitness level. A personal fitness plan will be designed with input from the instructor and closely monitored for progress. Students should plan to workout vigorously for the entire class period. Fitness plans will be customized for each student?s short- and long-term goals, i.e., weight management, overall conditioning for health, sports specific training, muscle strength and conditioning, or increasing cardiovascular endurance. All fitness levels are welcome and each workout will have the ability to be scaled up or down to meet the fitness needs of all students. Intensity is variable for everyone.

Based on the times we are in due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have pivoted from many of the activities listed in the program of studies for this course.  Our focus remains to stay physically active but to also honor the social distancing requirements of six feet or more.  Most of our activities will be done outside of the building. This will allow students to take much needed mask breaks when they adhere to the six feet or more rule.  Some of the activities include tennis, fitness walking, jogging/running, body weight exercising, interval training, weight lifting, box jumps and kettlebell swings. .  All activities and lessons will be driven by these three national physical education standards: Standard 3, Standard 4 and Standard 5.
