Liebe/r AP Schüler/in,

 Herzlich willkommen in die Deutsch AP/52 Klasse.  Ich freue mich sehr auf das Jahr mit euch und hoffe wir werden viel lernen und erleben und natürlich, viel Spaß zusammen haben ☺.  Hier sind meine Erwartungen vom Jahr:

 Kurspakete:

Für jede Einheit werdet ihr ein Kurspaket von Frau Ellis bekommen. Dieses Kurspaket enthält alles, was wir in der Einheit lesen/machen/schreiben usw werden. Du musst unbedingt dieses Kurspaket jeden Tag zum Unterricht bringen.

 Deutsch:

Du musst jeden Tag Deutsch sprechen—kein Englisch!  Sobald du dem Klassenzimmer beitrittst, musst du Deutsch sprechen.  Deine Note wird stark davon beeinflusst, wie viel Deutsch du im Unterricht verwendest.

 Aufwand an Zeit:

Du wirst fast jeden Tag deutsche Hausaufgaben haben.   Du sollst damit rechnen, täglich zwischen 30 und 60 Minuten für AP Deutsch arbeiten müssen.  Wenn es weniger Hausaufgaben gibt, würde ich vorschlagen, dass du dir die Zeit nimmst, die Vokabeln auswendig zu lernen.

 Vokabeln:

Vokabeln sind sehr wichtig in der Deutsch AP/52 Klasse.  Je mehr deutsche Wörter du kennst, desto besser werden deine Chancen auf dem AP Examen.  Wir werden eine Vokabelliste für jede Einheit haben, auf der es Presentational/Interpersonal Wortschatz und Interpretive Wortschatz gibt. Die Vokabeln auf der Interpretive Liste musst du Deutsch zu Englisch lernen. Für die Vokabeln auf der Presentational/Interpersonal Liste, musst du sie Englisch zu Deutsch lernen.  Noch dazu werden wir viele „Satzanfänge“ für jede Einheit lernen, die du in deinen Aufsätzen und schriftlichen Aufgaben verwenden musst.

 Lesen:

Leseverständnis ist das alle Schwierigste auf dem AP Examen.  Deshalb werden wir im Laufe des Jahres viel lesen und diskutieren.  Wir werden sowohl viele Zeitungsartikel und kurze Texte, als auch Bücher und Theaterstücke im Laufe des Jahres lesen, damit du auf das AP Examen vorbereitet bist.

 Sprechen:

Der Sprachteil des Examens ist sehr kompliziert und sehr viel wert. Deshalb werden wir oft üben.   Solche Übungen kannst du vom Jahr erwarten:

• Spontan Sprechen
• Vorträge
• Diskussionen
• T.A.L.K. Konversationen in Kleingruppen

Hören:

Das Hörverständnis ist auch sehr wichtig.  Damit du dich im Laufe des Jahres verbessern kannst, werden wir die folgenden Formen von Hörverständnis im Unterricht üben/anschauen/hören:

• Filme
• YouTube Videos
• Nachrichten
• Deutsche Welle Videos

 Schreiben:

Für das AP Examen musst du einen langen Persuasive Essay schreiben und auch eine kurze formale E-mail schreiben.  Deswegen wirst du für jede Einheit einen Aufsatz und eine kurze E-mail schreiben müssen.  Das heißt auch, dass du gut auf Sie und Du aufpassen musst!

 Das Examen:

Das AP Examen findet am 13. Mai 2022 um 8Uhr statt.  Alle, die in der AP Klasse sind, müssen das Examen schreiben. Ich schlage auch vor, dass die Schüler, die in der 51/H Klasse sind, auch das Examen schreiben.

 Grades/Noten:

THIS SECTION IS WRITTEN IN ENGLISH SO THAT YOU CAN SHARE IT WITH YOUR PARENTS: Your grade in this class will consist of Interpretive work (reading/listening), Interpersonal work (unrehearsed speaking/interacting with a partner), Presentational work (prepared, individual speaking and writing work) and Active Engagement (class/group/pair work, homework completion, achievement assessments etc). The three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational) will account for 90% of your grade and the active engagement will account for 10% of your grade. In addition, the term weights are as follows: Term 1--14%; Term 2--22%; Term 3--29%; Term 4--35%.  On the first page of every Kurspaket this year, you will find a breakdown of every single assessment: what type of assessment it is, what the topic is and in what section of the unit it will be given. This should enable you to prepare effectively for each assessment. A breakdown of these grades can be found on the next page.

 The CML rubrics are by mode: interpersonal, presentational and interpretive. The rubrics can be found at the beginning of each course packet.

GRADING POLICY FOR THE 2021/2022 SCHOOL YEAR:

 

The CML department will be adapting the following changes to its grading policy for this school year:

 

1. Student grades will be based 90% on communication (which is a combination of interpretive, interpersonal and presentational work) and 10% on Active Engagement.  
2. Students will be able to earn the grades below on individual assessments. The breakdown is as follows: 

A (94.5%)	Student’s learning shows in-depth inferences and applications that go beyond the targeted performance.	Mid-Range Student performance consistently and solidly fits within the grade range. - Student performance shows solid evidence of that grade range, but not all of the time. There is some breakdown within some element(s) of performance in that grade range, but not to the extent that it would warrant the lower letter grade.
A- (91%)
B (84.5%)	Student’s learning meets the targeted performance.
B- (81%)
C (74.5%)	Student’s learning shows the simpler aspects of the targeted performance, or has some important errors or omissions.
C- (71%)
D (64.5%)	Student’s learning demonstrates only partial ability or is incomplete.
D- (61%)

 

1.  Although individual assessments will only earn the grades above,, term/semester grades will be a mathematical calculation of the grades they have earned on their individual assessments throughout the term/semester and will not necessarily be limited to the grades above. 
2. No extra credit will be offered at any point throughout this year.
3. Meeting the performance target for the course will earn a student a B grade.
4. The CML department will still adhere to sequential grading in which assessments throughout a term or semester will increase in weight as the term/semester progresses (meaning a student’s most recent assessment will carry the most weight).
5. Grades/points given for achievement assessments (or non-performance assessments) such as homework, effort/engagement in class, target language use (except as assessed through performance), vocabulary quizzes etc will be limited to 10% of their term/semester/year grade.
