Course Syllabus

Following a review of grammar taken up in Latin 2 H and an introduction to several additional concepts in Oxford Latin Course: Part III, Latin 3 will involve the study of the language, achievement, and historical significance of Vergil's epic Aeneid. Students will engage in close reading, translation, and discussion of parts of Books 1 and 2 of the work, with attention to the meter of the poem, themes of the text, and the philosophic perspective the poet.

 

Reference to Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and to related works of Latin and English literature, will supplement this study.
