TASK #1: Love Letter - "Define your Why" Writing

HERE IS THE LIST FOR THE U.N. GLOBAL GOAL YOU ARE WRITING YOUR LOVE LETTER ABOUT Links to an external site.

Task: You will write your personal "why" statement of 250-300 words that identifies and explains your cause/issue and explains how you are personally connected to it. Today the Evo teachers will tell you which UN Global Goal (based on your survey)/topic that you will be writing about.  You will be sharing this with your peers on Friday.

**SOME OF YOU OPTED TO HAVE "NO PREFERENCE"... this means you may have been assigned a topic that you did not previously brainstorm or identify a connection to. If so, see the content in RED for alternate prompts.**

Format: Divide your WHY statement into three paragraphs:

Paragraph ONE:

  • Explanation of your "WHY" topic.  Your explanation should include relevant information/evidence that helps describe to others what your WHY entails. In order to execute this you may need to do some basic, cursory research to share.
  • Alt: Look back at the UN Global Goal site -- Write up an understanding of the topic, how do you see it? What are some concrete events/issues present in our world today that you are aware of that connect to this topic. This is where you you are trying to wrap your head around this new topic.

Paragraph TWO:

  • Explanation/story of how you are personally connected to your identified "WHY" topic.  Remember as Michael Jr. and Simon Sinek shared, "people are more connected/moved by a why compared to the what or the how.
  • Alt: How might you be connected with this topic? Why could you get behind it? Why might it impact you?

Paragraph THREE:

  • Explanation of the impact you hope to have in bringing attention/awareness to your WHY.
  • Alt: Explanation of why you chose "no preference" and what you can still contribute to your team's project. Where is your drive/passion in this project?

You will be sharing this with your team -- they will be reading your writing, so make sure all your reasoning and passion gets on the page.

Use the template to help organize your writing. Here is a digital link to the examples and template Links to an external site.. If you use the template, be sure to remove everything that isn't your writing.

Submission:

Upload your google doc to this assignment AND be sure to update your access settings.
