Below is a strong response. The student was given the Cotton Kingdom to write about and they chose to bring in the Industrial Revolution. This response is strong because:

it brings in evidence from both sources (the textbook and the map)
It connects the two transformations in more than one way
The evidence chosen in Precise
The analysis presented is Precise and does not repeat itself

During the 19th century the Industrial revolution and the cotton kingdom are the transformations that furthered our nation today. The industrial revolution focused on the technology and infrastructure such as factories and roads, that were invented to make goods more efficient. A tool that was used during this revolution was the wooden spinning wheel. This item was mainly used by women when tending machines in the textile mills in the North or doing labor at home. They were able to produce thread of yarn from the fibers in the cotton (map). Because these cotton textiles mills were in demand of cotton, they started leaning on the raw cotton grown in the South, this was what created the Cotton Kingdom. The Cotton Kingdom was focused on the production of cotton. The south was the best place for growing cotton since it had the right climate and soil fertility. In 1793, it was difficult to remove seeds from the plant itself which slowed down the process. Than a year later, Eli Whitney, invented the cotton gin (p.28) This device was made up of rollers and brushes making it easier to separate the seeds form the cotton plant. Cotton was the most important cash crop of the southern economy and the nation as a whole. So much so that the nation was producing 2 billion pounds every year (map) In order for textile mills and factories to run in the New England they needed to lean on the South to supply the mills with cotton.
