Welcome to Honors Biology!

Ms. Carolyn 'Beanie' Spangler

Office: Room 358

This course increases student understanding of biological concepts such as: the chemistry of life (biochemistry), cells and transport, human systems, DNA and genetics, microbiology and immunity, evolution, and ecology.  Students explore these major concepts in biology while emphasizing various skills including: problem solving, critical thinking, synthesis of ideas, collaboration and the application of biology to everyday life.  Scientific inquiry, laboratory experiences and data collection and analysis are interwoven throughout the year.  Additionally, by increasing biological literacy and practicing evidence-based reasoning skills, students will hopefully become better consumers of scientific literature and news media and ultimately become better decision makers especially where their health and wellbeing are concerned.  Student's development as biologists will cultivate their role as future decision-making citizens!
