Course description: AP French Language and Culture is a college-level course intended for students in their fifth year of study of French. The course prepares students for the AP French exam. The Interpersonal (spoken and written), Interpretive (audio, visual, and audio visual), and Presentational (spoken and written) modes of communication serve as the fundamental basis for the AP French Language and Culture course. Coursework provides students with opportunities to dem0nstrate their proficiency in each of the three modes. Students enrolled in this course demonstrate an understanding of various francophone culture(s), incorporate interdisciplinary topics (connections), make comparisons between the native language and the target language and between cultures (comparisons), and use the target language in real-life settings (communities).

 

The course is based on the six thematic units designated by the COllege Board:

 

  • Global challenges
  • Science and technology
  • Contemporary life
  • Personal and public identities
  • Families and communities
  • Beauty and aesthetics



Course Objectives:

 

Students should be able to:

  • Understand the French f native speakers in a variety of contexts and representing  variety of francophone cultures
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of the cultures of the francophone world
  • Use French to connect with other disciplines and expand knowledge in wide-variety of contexts.
  • The ability to express oneself accurately and with reasonable fluency in both spoken and written french.
  • The ability to read and understand French in a variety of texts such as magazines, newspapers, literary texts.
