Welcomes to Cornerstones!
Cornerstones is a therapeutic learning center designed to assist students with social and emotional challenges. We employ a student-centered, strength-based approach that addresses the unique needs of each student. We believe that by fostering a culture of collaboration, respect and acceptance, students will develop the confidence and skills needed for a positive and productive future.
In Cornerstones English, co-taught by Amanda and Mary with support from our TA, Cole, we offer students reading, writing, speaking, and listening experiences that focus on their individual strengths and needs. We balance community reads with independent reading to foster a lifetime love of reading and tackle level appropriate writing assignments to build skills in critical thinking and written communication.
Grades are standards-based, and we work with students individually to help them achieve mastery.
We're currently working reading Octavia Butler's Kindred and considering big questions about race, power, and language.
The syllabus page shows a table-oriented view of the course schedule, and the basics of course grading. You can add any other comments, notes, or thoughts you have about the course structure, course policies or anything else.
