Course Syllabus

The main purpose of the course is to train all incoming freshman and new students to safely use the exercise equipment and stations in the Fitness Center. Successful completion of certification classes will allow students access to the fitness center during and after school. Instruction will focus on the components of fitness and how they contribute to optimal health. Principles of strength training, elements of cardiovascular health, basic anatomy and physiology, sports injury prevention, and the elements of a personal fitness plan are topics covered during the course. A secondary objective of the course is to introduce students to the variety of course offerings within the Fitness and Health Department so that they may be better informed to choose from available electives in subsequent semesters. Students will have an opportunity to participate in introductory activities related to many of our Fitness and Health electives--Adventure Education, Personal Safety, Social Dance, Sports Education, and Yoga. There is a high level of activity in this course.
