Course Description:

Learning center is a place where students come to work on their individualized educational goals to help them access the curriculum to their fullest potential. What you will work in within the learning center will be a combination of activities of your choosing and activities directed by your LC teachers. This can include time management exercises, organizational work, breaking down big projects, preparing for tests and quizzes, previewing new material for upcoming units across the curriculum, reviewing material from a unit you have completed in a class, working on improving your writing skills, or any other areas where individual students need support.

In senior year, all students are taking English and gym for graduation requirements and most students are taking math, a foreign language, and other electives for History and science as well as other electives of their choosing.

The key focus of senior year is getting prepared for life after high school. Whether this is applying to colleges and preparing for the independence of college, or an apprenticeship or other job opportunity, students are working on their individual goals and programs in order to be successful in these endeavors.

Objectives:

  • Through individual and small group work, students will achieve their individual goals set out on their IEPs.
  • Students will develop skills to independently advocate for themselves and use school resources such as help labs, library, and office hours with teachers to access the curriculum successfully.
  • Students will improve executive functioning so they can manage their course workloads independently.
  • Students will improve their organizational abilities.
  • Students will improve their knowledge of core content and use their learning time efficiently to work on any areas of deficit.
