The following components will be included in Academic Literacy Classes

Depending on the needs of each class, certain skills will have more or less of a focus. 

Word study (Analysis of roots, suffixes, and prefixes)

Comprehension strategies

Reading fluency

Phonics:

-Certain students will receive instruction using the Wilson Reading System. This will be dependent on pre-assessments that determine placement.

Writing development

Building awareness of local and world issues

Grading: Grades are based on effort, participation and attendance. Occasionally, we will administer an assessment to better understand you as a reader and writer. 

Academic and Social Behavior: Please arrive to class on time and ready to work.
