A. B. & C.: Art, Books, & Creativity

Tap your creative skills and learn how to make unique and personal artists' books. This course is perfect for new and repeat students interested in exploring the rich tradition of bookmaking from cover-to-cover. Instruction in A.B.C. covers the history of bookmaking, creative sketching and writing exercises, and the fundamentals of bookmaking and book arts using a variety of techniques. You will have the opportunity to explore techniques in bookbinding and bookmaking, including: folded and sewn structures, pop-ups, sculptural, Japanese stab binding, and Tunnel Books. You may make use of collage, image transfer, monoprinting, and simple block printing techniques for creating images.

Grades are point based using the Art Department Rubrics.

Standard 1: Technique

Skill 1A: Use of media and tools.  Skill 1B: Composition.

Standard 2: Idea Development

Skill 2A: Planning. Skill 2B: Artistic Voice. Skill 2C: Artistic content. Skill 2D: Transformation and Growth.

Standard 3: Artistic Process

Skill 3A: Time Management. Skill 3B: Content Knowledge. 3C: Presentation.
