Fitness Yoga Syllabus

 

This course is designed for students who would like to learn and use yoga as the focus of their fitness routine. Through a variety of flow routines and movements, and using hatha yoga poses and correct breathing techniques, students will strive to increase their flexibility, balance, and strength. Students will also learn ways to reduce their daily stress levels through regular breathing practice. Creating and performing an original yoga routine will be expected of each student in the class. Students will also partake in Yoga Nidra to reduce stress and learn relaxation techniques.

 All of the content and lessons in Fitness Yoga will be driven by these three national physical education standards: Standard 3, Standard 4 and Standard 5.  

The National Physical Education Standards

Standard 3- The physically literate individual
demonstrates the knowledge and skills to
achieve and maintain a health-enhancing
level of physical activity and fitness.


Standard 4- The physically literate individual
exhibits responsible personal and social
behavior that respects self and others.


Standard 5- The physically literate individual
recognizes the value of physical activity for
health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression
and/or social interaction.
