Honors Algebra 2

Course Description:  The primary focus of this course is student exploration of the following families of functions:  Linear (Systems & Piecewise), Absolute Value, Quadratic, Root/Rational Exponent, Polynomial, Exponential, Logarithmic and Rational.  Within each of these families student proficiency of the following will be measured.  

  • Expressions:  Students are expected to perform operations, change forms and evaluate expressions.
  • Equations/Inequalities:  Students are expected to solve equations/inequalities and check for extraneous solutions.
  • Graphs:  Students are expected to obtain information from a graph, generate graphs given information and/or equations/inequalities as well as apply & describe transformations.
  • Model & ReasonStudents will be evaluated on their ability to model mathematically, interpret solutions within the context of a situation and justify responses.

  Grading Policy:

Term Grade:
  • Assessments (test and quizzes) - 60% 
  • Term Cumulative Assessment - 20%
  • Flex Grade (higher of Assessment average and Cumulative Assessment) - 15% 
  • Homework - 5%
Year Grade:
  • Term 1 - 22% 
  • Term 2 - 22%
  • Term 3 - 22% 
  • Term 4 - 22%
  • Final Exam - 12%

[1] Any change to the grading policy will be discussed as a class prior to implementing the change(s).

Attendance:

If you are absent, check Canvas to find out what you missed.  All assignments are posted on Canvas.  Students absent on the day of a test or quiz, will be expected to make it up the day they return to school.

Students may visit the Math Resource Center during a free block or Directed Research block during the school day.  Schedule & Location

  • After school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays: 2:30-3:00
