ABOUT THE COURSE:
Cornerstones is a therapeutic learning center designed to assist students with social and emotional challenges. We employ a student-centered, strength-based approach that addresses the unique needs of each student. We believe that by fostering a culture of collaboration, respect and acceptance, students will develop the confidence and skills needed for a positive and productive future.
In Cornerstones English, taught by Ms. Murphy with support from our TA and our program leaders Lauren & Tim, we offer students reading, writing, speaking, and listening experiences that focus on their individual strengths and needs. We balance community reads with independent reading to foster a lifetime love of reading and tackle level appropriate writing assignments to build skills in critical thinking and written communication.*
Students can expect to receive feedback in the following areas:
Communication (Writing and speaking)
Comprehension (Reading, listening, and critical thinking)
Reflection (Self Assessment & metacognition)
Approach to Learning (Preparation, engagement, participation, collaboration & commitment to community)
*Thank you to Ms. Brown for some of the language on this syllabus.
