(Physical Education Quarter Elective Course)

Syllabus

Sports Education is a traditional games-based physical education course and is grounded in a high-level of aerobic, cardiovascular movement. The focus is on team or partner sports and will include instruction in a minimum of four of these activities: ultimate frisbee, flag football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, speedball, street/floor hockey, badminton, tennis or pickleball. 

Students should dress to be active. Sneakers are required to participate in this class and participation is a measure of effort for the course. As stated previously, there is a high level of physical activity in this course.

All activities and lessons will be driven by these three national physical education standards:

Standard 3, Standard 4 and Standard 5.

The National Physical Education Standards

Standard 3- The physically literate individual
demonstrates the knowledge and skills to
achieve and maintain a health-enhancing
level of physical activity and fitness.

Standard 4- The physically literate individual
exhibits responsible personal and social
behavior that respects self and others.

Standard 5- The physically literate individual
recognizes the value of physical activity for
health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression
and/or social interaction.

Student Assessment is based on these tenets:

  • Good attendance / being present in daily class
  • High effort & active participation
  • Showing respect to self, classmates and the teacher
  • A willingness to learning new skills
  • CANVAS assignments or reflections, as required
