Course Syllabus

Welcome to DANCE I! 

This course is meant for students to have fun, while gaining general knowledge on dance education and getting a positive workout! 

Simple expectations of the course are:

  • Good Attendance
  • Showing up on time
  • Effort
  • General respect to everyone in the class

Syllabus:

This course will cover the basics of dance as well as some dance history. It is designed to ensure that every student will learn and achieve the basic movement qualities needed in learning how to dance. We will begin with learning general technique such as the positions of the feet and arms, and will cover the basics of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Some global dance forms will also be covered, as well as a few social and folk dances. 

We will work on flexibility, as well as learn how to jump and turn. We will learn how to put steps together to make combinations and dances. We will also work on musicality with music to gain knowledge of how to count musical phrases in dance.

For inspiration, videos of different performances of all styles of dance will be shown.

This class is for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced dancer and will be designed to advance each student individually.

Grading:

Grading will be based upon attendance, general effort, enthusiasm, and respect.
