Course Syllabus

Hello everyone! I am looking forward to meeting you and getting started with Honors US History. 

Here is the course expectations document. We'll go over it early on in our class, but for now, I do want to highlight that you'll need a notebook with lined paper and a three-ring binder for our course.

I hope we all have a healthy year, but absences do happen, and I want to let you know our expectations when they occur. In short, we expect you to keep up with assignments as they appear on each Unit Schedule. However, when illness is severe or family emergencies happen, we will do our best to be flexible. Check in with me as needed. 

Need extra help? Let's set up a meeting. I have plenty of office hours. Mr. Riely has office hours after school from 2:35 to 3:05 on Wednesdays. However, I am generally available during A Block and after school.There are also meet plenty of other times if that don't work for you, however - I'm around most A Blocks and for some time after school. 

District accommodations (DCAP) are available to all students, and in the 26-27 school year, WHS is committed to moving this forward with fidelity. While some accommodations can be offered in the moment, others require advanced notice. For example: Extended time on an in-class assessment is a collaborative decision made by the teacher, student, and family to meet individual student needs.  The WHS guideline is up to 25% extra time.  This accommodation relies on proactive student communication prior to the date of the assessment.  The student and teacher must establish how the accommodation will be provided.

Finally, let me briefly explain how grading will work this year. Each quarter grade is worth 22% of your year grade. The remaining 12% derives from your end-of-year exam in June. Quarter grades are made up of Major and Minor Assignments. The former, consisting of tests, extended quizzes, and essays, is worth 75% of the quarter grade, while latter, which includes short quizzes, short writing assignments, and seminar discussions, makes up the remaining 25%.
