Hello everyone! I am looking forward to meeting you and getting started with AP US History.

Here is our course expectations document. We'll go over it together in a few days, but for now, I want to highlight that you'll need a notebook with lined paper and a three-ring binder for our course.

I hope we all have a healthy year, but absences do happen, and I want to let you know our expectations when they occur. In short, we expect you to keep up with assignments as they appear on each Unit Schedule. However, when illness is severe or family emergencies happen, we will do our best to be flexible. Check in with me as needed.

Need extra help? Let's set up a meeting. Mr. Riely has office hours after school from 2:35 to 3:05 on Wednesdays. He is also generally available during A Block and after school. Here is a link to my schedule so you can see when I'm free.

District accommodations (DCAP) are available to all students, and in the 26-27 school year, WHS is committed to moving this forward with fidelity. While some accommodations can be offered in the moment, others require advanced notice. For example: Extended time on an in-class assessment is a collaborative decision made by the teacher, student, and family to meet individual student needs.  The WHS guideline is up to 25% extra time.  This accommodation relies on proactive student communication prior to the date of the assessment.  The student and teacher must establish how the accommodation will be provided.

Finally, let me briefly explain how grading will work this year. Each quarter grade is worth 25% of your year grade. Quarters are made up of Major and Minor Assignments. The former, consisting of tests, extended quizzes, and essays, is worth 75% of the quarter grade, while latter, which includes short quizzes and seminar discussions, makes up the remaining 25%.
