Salvete! Welcome to Latin 3! We will continue to use the Oxford Latin Course series, which follows the life of a famous Roman poet named Quintus Horatius Flaccus (known to us as ‘Horace’ in English). We will focus primarily on improving our reading ability in Latin; we will also work on developing our writing, speaking and listening skills. 

Our goal is to complete the majority of the third book in the OLC series; we will spend time reviewing the cultural practices and history of the ancient Mediterranean, and eventually say 'vale!' to Quintus, moving on to reading other Latin later in the year. Unit II: The Millionaire's Dinner Party 

• This text builds upon the language and grammar learned from CLC and explores the extravagant and lavish dinner-party held by a freedman during the time of Nero. We will read and discuss the story, as well as explore the culture of the Roman Empire during the first century CE.

Grading and Accommodations

Performance Assessments: 90% of overall grade

• Tests, exams and presentational assessments

Achievement Assessments: 10% of overall grade

• Quizzes (vocab or otherwise), in-class work, worksheets et al. 

Accommodations

District accommodations (DCAP) are available to all students, and in the 26-27 school year, WHS is committed to moving this forward with fidelity. While some accommodations can be offered in the moment, others require advanced notice.
For example: Extended time on an in-class assessment is a collaborative decision made by the teacher, student, and family to meet individual student needs.  The WHS guideline is up to 25% extra time.  This accommodation relies on proactive student communication prior to the date of the assessment.  The student and teacher must establish how the accommodation will be provided.
