Welcome to Algebra 2 CP

 

  1. Topics Algebra 2 will rely on and extend the knowledge obtained in first-year algebra and geometry. The study of functions will be approached from a variety of perspectives (e.g., symbolically and graphically), emphasizing the importance and representation of functions in “real world” applications. Focus will fall on the following functions: linear, absolute value, quadratic, radical, exponential and polynomial. Students will analyze and compare these functions throughout the year.
  1. Appropriate and respectful behavior is expected at all times. I hope that we can work together to create a learning environment that is fun and productive.
  1. Cell phone policy: To maintain a focused and respectful learning environment, cell phones, smart watches, and other electronic devices will not be used during class time. As students enter the classroom, they will park their phones and smart watches in their assigned spaces in the back of the classroom. Students will also put their devices on Do Not Disturb mode to avoid sounds or vibrations from disrupting the class. These devices will not be accessed by students, including during bathroom breaks, without specific permission. Additional electronics, including headphones, will also not be used during class time. 
  1. Canvas: We will use Canvas to structure our course. This is where you will go to find anything that you need for our course.
  1. Classwork: We will be using Delta Math for classwork assignments almost each day. These will go into the classwork category of your grade. Delta Math is an online learning tool that will give you instant feedback on the learning goals. It explains how to complete problems and helps you if you make an error.  This online platform is going to be great to help you determine if you are mastering the standards.  Delta Math assignments can be redone as many times as you’d like until the day of the next test.  
  1. Materials: It is important you have either a binder OR a notebook and a folder. You will be receiving practice packets and taking notes and it is important that you are able to organize these items. You must also have a scientific calculator that you bring to class every day. If you are unable to get one, please come see so that I can sign one out to you. You must also bring your charged computer every day in order to complete your classwork at the end of each class period.

  2. District Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP): District accommodations (DCAP) are available to all students, and in the 26-27 school year, WHS is committed to moving this forward with fidelity.

    While some accommodations can be offered at the moment, others require advanced notice. 

    For example: Extended time on an in-class assessment is a collaborative decision made by the teacher, student, and family to meet individual student needs.  The WHS guideline is up to 25% extra time.  This accommodation relies on proactive student communication prior to the date of the assessment.  The student and teacher must establish how the accommodation will be provided.

8.   GRADING: Outlined below is our grading system for this year.

 

Classwork

We will have classwork assignments given daily (typically at the end of class) that are graded. These are designed to make sure that you are mastering content as we are learning it. These classwork assignments can be redone as many times as you need to earn 100% up to the day of the test on that material.

Tests

There will be two tests per term. One halfway through the term and one term cumulative assessment at the end of the term. You will be given at least one week notice before these tests. We will have at least one review day in class.

You will be allowed to use a 5”x7” notecard on these assessments that you will make yourself.

Quizzes

Quizzes will vary in length and time. Some may be considered “check ins” and others may take a full class period.
